September 17, 2009

Hebe, Usuthu, Olumabhesh' ankone!'
How many of us have know where this slogan comes from? Or what it means for that matter? Not many..
'Hebe' is a war cry coined by a Zulu Regiment called Usuthu. Therefore it is a complimentary expression that encourages men to go out and win in battle. Now you know..
'Olumabhesh' ankone
Ibheshu is the traditional clothing made from cow hide that covers the private parts of both males and females
'Inkone' is a colour of cow that is either black or red with whote dots down the spine.
'Inyoka eluhlazana umabonwa abulawe'
'Inyoka' is a snake - 'eluhlazana' is green like a green mamba. 'Umabonwa abulawe' is something that must be killed every time you see it. That is, 'umabonwa' - every time you see it abulawe - you kill it this referes to the fact that AmaZulu were not liked by bitter KwaZulu-Natal arch-rivals African Wanderers (1906) and Bush Bucks (1912) who were formed way before AmaZulu was.
There is now of course a new, modern slogan for the club 'Only The Brave, Usuthu', which we will discuss in a seperate article.
