Tovey: It was disappointing
November 9, 2009
A few moments lack of concentration cost AmaZulu dearly when they went down to SuperSport United in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon..
There wasn’t much AmaZulu coach Neil Tovey and his technical team could do on Saturday as the players’ failed to heed the advice they had been given earlier in the week, in the end conceding four goals, although a late fight back did at least restore a small measure of pride to Usuthu.

Matsatsantsa are renowned dead ball specialists, yet AmaZulu conceded twice from free kicks as Daine Klate’s free kick deflected off Ntokozo Sikhakane and into goal, while Thabo September stole in unmarked at the back post.
“We planned all week and we knew that set pieces were going to be vital. I think we were very much in the game up until that stage (before the first free kick in the 15 th minute)
“We conceded from two set pieces in about five minutes – one next to each other and you have to take care of those situations – we know they are very strong in that department, and otherwise we’ve had two chances just before half time,” said Tovey.
He admits their was some shoddy defending by his side, but can at least take hope from a better second half display during which AmaZulu matched the two goals scored by SuperSport in that period – Litha Ngxabi’s volley on the run was a sublime piece of skill coupled with a superb finish, but unfortunately it was a little too late to spark any realistic hopes of a comeback.
“We didn’t defend at all well, we were disjointed at the back. Our wide players were too wide when we didn’t have the ball – they needed to come in and support the middle two and once that did happen in the second half we got back on track. It’s disappointing, but we have got to carry on,” added Tovey.
